A group of artists working in art, food, ecology, and public programming. As Sassafras, we experiment with the cultivation of new relationships and socio-economic models for our environments as/and artists. We are interested in the politics of hospitality, the possibility of ecological systems, and art as a means to build community, share ideas, and promote new cultural models.
As a collective operating without a physical location, our nomadic interest is to invite collaboration, encourage the production of public events, and to engage in long-term practices of making and researching food, culture, and social structures.
Lead collaborators include Christopher Kennedy, Mitchell Oliver, Katie Shlon, and Valerie Wiseman.
A particularly memorable event was a five course dinner made almost entirely from corn & soy products.
